April 16, 2009 (Dakar, Senegal) - After six years of preparation, Victor Mooney began his second attempt to row from Senegal to New York's Brooklyn Bridge to heighten the awareness of AIDS and global warming in a professionally built boat. After rowing for sixteen days (nearly 300 miles offshore), Mooney later had to make the painful decision of aborting his row due to his water desalinator systems wasn't functioning properly. The project was dedicated to the late His Highness, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the United Arab Emirates. The boat was named "The Spirit of Zayed". |
